Labor Day is more than the unofficial end of summer. It is a day set aside to recognize the contributions and achievements of American workers and the role they have played in building and strengthening our communities.
First celebrated in the late 1800s, Labor Day became a federal holiday in 1894. Today, it gives us an opportunity to appreciate the hard work, dedication, and determination of people across every profession and industry.
Here in Southwest Florida, our communities are shaped every day by the people who live and work here. From teachers, healthcare professionals and first responders to small business owners, tradespeople, hospitality workers and countless others, each plays a part in making our area a place so many are proud to call home.
Labor Day weekend also gives many of us a chance to slow down, spend time with family and friends, and enjoy a little of what makes living in Florida special.
Whether you are spending the weekend at the beach, gathering around the grill, enjoying time at home, or simply taking a much-needed day to relax, I hope you have the opportunity to enjoy it.
Happy Labor Day! Wishing you and your family a safe, relaxing, and well-deserved holiday.
